Marc Breyer

1968, Curitiba, PR

German/Brazilian visual artist, a lover of visual arts, classical/jazz music and languages, he has dedicate to drawing and painting since his youth. He started his first contact with visual arts under the stimulus of his father, Edmund Breyer and his grandmother, Olympia Breyer, both lovers of tempera and watercolor.

Initially, he found his best forms of expression through his drawings, using the French crayon (carbon), as well as painting in gouache on paper. Still in his adolescence, having been captivated by the greatness of the works by the masters of romanticism and impressionism/post-impressionism – notably John Constable, Claude Monet and Edouard-Leon Cortès – the artist began to produce works that bring an approach that reminds us to those by the masters.

However, Marc Breyer is not limited to such influences. He also makes use of his own techniques, which are based on the aim to associate the power and vibration of those master’s swift brushstrokes with the lightness of watercolor, thus proposing a painting that appears to have been applied to paper as a “decal” transferred to the paper, for the artist does not use the entire area of the base on which he paints.

His main themes are landscapes, seascapes, parks, trees and urban scenes, mostly from places that the artist actually visits.

Marc Breyer has already been awarded two prizes in Paraná, where he currently lives, as he has also taken part in 15 exhibitions – either one-man shows or group shows. More than 300 pieces by the artist are found in private collections in Brazil and abroad, notably in the United States and Europe.
